Last night I dreamed that first Tom Waits and then Shirley Bassey both performed in this tiny night club. I was so excited about Tom Waits that I could not believe it was him at first. He was absolutely great in case you were wondering. I wish I had a tape recorder in my brain to record him sing. Later Shirley Bassey came in the room all out of sorts wearing an amazing hat and watching her sing from close up made me cry. So great. She got into it and was working her way into the song, the same way I fell into my dream – and then someone shoved a camera in her face with a light – and it extinguished her. She broke down and her manager had to walk her out. Oh Shirley. I still feel bad for her hours later in the wide awake Los Angeles sun.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
