\nmany. We will be known as a culture that taught
\nand rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke
\nlittle if at all about the quality of life for
\npeople (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All
\nthe world, in our eyes, they will say, was a
\ncommodity. And they will say that this structure
\nwas held together politically, which it was, and
\nthey will say also that our politics was no more
\nthat an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of
\nthe heart, and that the heart, in those days,
\nwas small, and hard, and full of meanness.<\/em><\/p>\n
