Den nye Interpol er svær at gå til, er den ikke!? Har haft albummet nu i en måndes tid og håber endnu det vil åbne sig op og komme ud af sin selvbeskyttende mørke skal, men det sker bare ligesom ikke. Endnu. Savner Carlos når jeg hører den. Og får voldsom lyst til at sætte Turn On The Bright Lights på istedet. Så indtil det planlagte mirakkel sker her noget ganske andet…
Havde efter seneste MORcheesy The Killers-udspil på forhånd besluttet mig for ikke at ville kunne lide solodebuten fra Brandon Flowers, men må desværre tilstå både at høre og nyde Flamingo ret meget lige nu. Det på trods af en produktion, der til sammeligning får selv Beach House til at lyde som lyddesignet af Steve Albini. Men Killers-sangeren udstråler for det meste en masse på hjerte her, uanset næsten hvor meget voksen hi-fi han begraves i.
Selv midt i de svært håndterbare amerikansk-mytologiske tekster er der en urgency, en vilje til at kommunikere, der som oftest brænder klart igennem hans sang. Jo, en entusiasme omkring at kunne give sig selv og et hørbart behov for gengældelse. At Flowers så ovenikøbet har to af tidens bedste popører skader heller ikke hverken hans sag eller lytterens fornøjelse. Ja, jeg ved det – betragt bare dette som en simpel tilståelsessag…
Hvis andre svage sjæle er på vippen til at investere, så gør jer den tjeneste at få fat på den udvidede udgave af albummet, hvor den bedste af de fire – en megaskidt, en ligegyldig, men to overraskende gode – ekstra sange lyder således…
Jeg har aldrig forstået begejstringen for Interpol. Når de er værst er de jo bare glatte og tamme, og når de er bedst er de – indrømmet – stramme og lyder godt, men løfter sig til gengæld ikke over pastichen. Man får bare lyst til at Chameleons, Joy Division, etc. og den ægte 30 år gamle vare.
Når vi nu snakker Flowers og Killers. Er der så nogen der har hørt Mt. Desolation, som jo også lugter lidt af Killers?

Mht. Interpol. Den vinder indpas efter adskillige gennemlytninger her. Numre som Success, Lights og Barricade er Interpol lige-i-skabet mens de to afsluttende numre er ovre i Julian Plenti-land. @ Anders – helt væk fysisk er Carlos’ bass vel ikke. Men det virker måske – på linie med hans åbenlyst elendige humør da Interpol spillede på Train i Århus sidst – ikke som hjertet har været med. Den haltende lyd af et såret/svækket orkester.
Nej, Surfer Roas er en fremragende plade, med et band der øjensynligt allerede havde fundet den lyd og det heftige udtryk, som gik fint i spænd med Albini’s boksehandske-antiproduktion. De fleste andre bands han producerer kommer ikke så heldigt ud af det. Men tjek lige mandens producer-discografi fra Wikipedia her nedenfor – ifølge den producerer Steve Albini vel snildt et par albums om måneden! Det essentielle heri hvor klart tidsjagets utålmodighed rent faktisk høres, når hans navn står på en plade. Ja, tidsjag avler byggesjusk. Hold kæft, en latterligt lang liste – han ER useriøs! Utroligt hvad 1. stk. fuldbyrdet cutting edge Pixies-plade samt et dertil headhuntet, bestilt og veludført ‘slå pop-Nirvana ihjel’-lejemord kan føre med sig af hovedløs undergrundsaktivering…
Synes at førstesinglen fra Flowers tyder godt, og jeg glæder mig til at kunne høre mere fra samme skuffe.
Mht. Interpol, er jeg heller ikke helt oppe at ringe – men har dog ikke hørt alle numrene endnu. var dog voldsomt skuffet over det seneste udspil fra dem.
Hvad angår savnet af Carlos – Jens. Er han produceret helt væk? Såvidt jeg husker den lettere mærkelige afsked, så gik han først (eller blev gået), da albummet var indspillet?!
Jeg er hverken nogen fan af Albini eller det modsatte. Var f.eks. Surfer Rosa skidt produceret/optaget? På Josephine virkede den enkle optageteknik fint med det overvejende akustiske Magnolia Electric Co.
Jon Bon Jovi er en håndværksmæssigt kompetent rocksanger med ekstremt anonym/ordinær smag, hvorimod Brandon Flowers er en personlighed med indimellem besynderlige smagspreferencer langt ude på overdrevet. Det første er kedeligt – vel det grimmeste man kan sige om nogen/noget! – det sidste anderledes fascinerende…
Albini producerer ikke, han optager. Vil meget gerne han holder sine sort/hvide-negle langt væk fra Beach House og ethvert andet band jeg holder af. Okay, Pastor, har så ikke hørt de to du nævner, men MANGE andre fra hans hånd. Nok til ikke at ville lade tvivlen komme hans ucharmerende og klangfattige lyd til gode. Senest jeg hørte ham, fuckede han alt der er godt ved jarvis Cocker godt og grundigt op.
Steve Albini laver ikke nødvendigvis en rå lyd. Det seneste album med Manic Street Preachers og Josephine med Magnolia Electric Co. er modeksempler. Jeg tror ikke, Albini nødvendigvis ville være et dårligt producervalg for Beach House.
Der er lidt for ofte noget lidt for Bon Jovi-agtigt over Brandon Flowers, synes jeg. Og det var ingen ros.
Killers og Interpol. Man kan godt finde visse ligheder i deres udgivelseshistorie…
Men det kan være, Flowers skal have en chance som Brandon Flowers. Er han færdig med rockmusik? Det ville være lidt ærgerligt, selvom det er spild af looks, at han nok stadig hænger på væggen i flere drengeværelser end pigeværelser.
