I dag for 48 (!) år siden udsendte The Rolling Stones deres ‘Get Off Of My Cloud som single. Indspillet halvanden måned tidligere i RCA Studios i Hollywood, skulle denne adrenalin-raket af en sang fungere som efterfølger til 65-sommerens monsterhit ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’. Keith Richards kommentar i 1971 på sangen udstråler ikke tilfredshed med slutresultatet:

“I never dug it as a record. The chorus was a nice idea, but we rushed it as the follow-up. We were in L.A., and it was time for another single. But how do you follow-up “Satisfaction”? Actually, what I wanted was to do it slow like a Lee Dorsey thing. We rocked it up. I thought it was one of Andrew Loog Oldham’s worst productions”.

Hårde ord, og ‘Get Off Of My Cloud’ tog dog singlehitlisternes førsteplads i bl.a. England, Tyskland og USA, så så håbløs som Richards påstår var sangen vel aldrig. Selv vil jeg til enhver tid foretrække denne ret perfekte prototype-garagepunksang fremfor ‘Satisfaction’. Filmoptagelsen her blev vist hele seks gange på BBC’s Top of the Pops…
