A new single, a cover of the Rodgers-Hammerstein anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is set to rock England in support of Liverpool Football Club. Featuring well-known LFC supporters from the world of rock and pop: American songstress Lana del Rey, former Bunnyman Ian McCulloch and Lee Mavers of Eighties indie sensation The La’s and backed by the Lambeth-based Liverpudlians The Palma Violets, the single is produced by the legendary Clash guitarist Mick Jones. Backing vocalist Sandra Ann Lauer of German fame may not be familiar to many in the UK, but the rhythm guitarist is none other than ex-Libertine Peter Doherty, currently out of rehab. While a Londoner by birth, Doherty was very affected by the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 and asked his grandmother, who lived in Liverpool, to visit Anfield and say a prayer for the victims. In a rambling press release, Pete Doherty is quoted as saying that “it is now time to pay homage to an integral part of my English heritage, the Empire of The Kop.”

The recording has been rumoured to also contain a vocal contribution by expat Mancunian legend Morrissey, but this has been vehemently denied by his American manager, stating that “Morrissey has no interest in things soccer-related”.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone” kan købes på iTunes fra i dag.
