Yoko takker Elbow

For få dage siden viste jeg jer “New York Morning”, den første single fra Elbows The Take Off And Landing Of Everything, som er ude nu. I sangen nævner Guy Garvey & Co. at New York er “…the modern Rome and folk are nice to Yoko.” Yoko Ono skriver dette på sit websted:

To Elbow:

Dear Guy, Craig, Mark, Pete and Richard,

Yes. New York has been kind to me as your song says. Thank you.

For John, he always wanted to come and live in this city, ever since he saw Bob Dylan on the famous album cover (The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan). And I played the catalyst to make his dream come true.

But in sleepless nights, I am still living in the memory of my sweet husband, who was virtually kicked out of his own country that he loved so dearly and learned to live in this bleak port city just so his woman and he could live in peace.

Two sides of the coin. Life is.

Have a great time in New York.
We loved it.

love,

Og som jeg næsten allerede har røbet: The Take Off And Landing Of Everything er et meget vellykket album fra Elbow – jeg fristes til at sige: som sædvanlig.

2 tanker om “Yoko takker Elbow”

  1. Det undrer faktisk også mig. I et interview fra 1975 siger Lennon:

Because it’s more fun here. Some of the nasties think I’m here for tax reasons. But it’s hardly worth explaining to people. I only decided to live here after I’d moved here. I didn’t leave England with the intention … I left everything in England. I didn’t even bring any clothes. I just came for a visit and stayed. If I had wanted to do it for tax I should have informed the British Government; I would have gotten an amazing tax-refund for one year. But I forgot to — so I just ended up paying taxes anyway, here and there. If I’donly thought of it, I would have made a million pounds or something. In America, they should stop saying I do it for the tax. I like it here! Is anywhere better?

Det ville være langt mere rigtigt at sige at John Lennon var ved at blive sparket ud af USA; de amerikanske myndigheder gjorde meget for at forhindre ham i at få opholdstilladelse.

Trist.
