A lot of the older people we’ve talked about are making horrible records now. It’s a curse: After 40 you make shit records. Our generation is aware of that, so we’ve been taking this opportunity to rethink everything. We don’t have a lot of options, because I’ve started really to enjoy serious music like Philip Glass and Steve Reich, but we still want to make records that are exciting to hear and not too boring. You can take on a new producer, but then you’ll look like an old lady who does plastic surgery. It’s unknown territory right now, and we are aware of the danger. When you grow old, music is less important in your life. We really like Beach House, and we asked Victoria Legrand to sing on Le Voyage Dans La Lune. This crazy guy from L.A., Ariel Pink, has a couple of tracks that are really cool. I’m really curious to see what we’re going to do in the future, and what music I’m gonna like. But I live in a very strong musical environment. My girlfriend listens to music all the time, and my children do, too. They listen to Led Zeppelin and the new Justice album. Sometimes I’m scared when I don’t think something they play is good, I’ll think, “Oh, I’m an old-fashioned guy. That’s it. I crossed the line. I’m on the other side of the river.”
