“Heroes”-producer Tony Visconti skriver på Facebook i dag: “45 years ago this fantastic album was released. David, as usual, started the album with sketched musical ideas, no lyrics, no melodies. Therefore full credit must be given to Brian Eno, the band, Carlos Alomar, George Murray and Dennis Davis, who laid down phenomenal backing tracks that inspired the great songs on the album. And Robert Fripp played all his guitar parts in one day. After all of them went back home David and I chipped away at the musical marble and the songs emerged. For lyrics, he would sometimes walk up to the microphone with the first few lines, then ask me to stop the tape so he could think of a few more. The title track, as most true fans know, was inspired while David watched backing singer Antonia Maas and I having a brief snog by the Berlin Wall. Backing vocals were spontaneously sung by David and me just walking up to the microphone and figuring things out. Credit must be given to our engineer Edu Meyer who held the fort down in a control room that overlooked the Wall. This is my favorite David Bowie album.”
